a piece of creative writing.

i did this on a train when i had no newspaper and no book and nothing to do except write. i was also trying to avoid some chavs.

Many of the hills around Swansea have that shaved, stubbly quality like a Mohican haircut. As the train pulls into the station, it begins to rain. The station is bleak enough for the weary traveller without added insult from the weather. The quest to get back into Mid Wales is oftentimes an exercise in futility and exasperation. The distances from Llandrindod to Cardiff can usually be covered by car in around eighty minutes. How, then, is it humanly possible for it to take three-and-half hours by train? The mind boggles at such a disparity in time. Fortunately, for the city, Cardiff just about merits the effort involved in such an excursion (although ‘trek’ might be a more appropriate word). Aboard the Shrewsbury train, some passengers chatter away happily through the medium of Welsh, whilst the rain... [Read More]

favorite poem of the moment
May 01, 2008 - 4:48 AM - by forget her
here's mine. i'm totally feeling this right now:

A Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes

What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?

post your favorite poem here. i have tons, but i've totally been feeling that one lately.

when creativity runs out
Apr 01, 2008 - 7:56 PM - by LifeDrinker
i think i ran out of creativity, in terms of poetry and short pieces of prose, when i was about 15.
from the age of 13-15 i wrote prolifically, certainly on a daily basis if not 4 or 5 pieces in one day. but ever since i've written nothing of real worth, nor have i felt the old urge to do so either.
its sad how it just evaporated one day. most people would say it came from hormones, i guess. i dont want to think that i've lost that side of myself, tho. that side of myself that could express herself succinctly and poetically at the same time. i dont know why its still important to me if i cant DO it. maybe im not trying hard enough. never used to have to TRY.
pfft. maybe this is just getting older.

sorry for the semi-ranty-thing!
